Salon/Business Name: Cutler Salon
Specialty: Salon Owner
My Bio: Rodney Cutler's hair styling career began at the young age of 16 when he was appointed to a four-year apprenticeship at Rifmik, one of Australia's leading hair salons. After much success in Australia, Rodney’s travels brought him to New York, and eventually lead to his employment at Bumble & Bumble Salon in 1992. At Bumble & Bumble, Rodney rapidly rose to be one of their top stylists and co-developed a program that integrated innovative hair cutting concepts, trained other staff members, and coordinated the teachers for the Assistant Hair Cutting Program. In 2001, after three years of running a salon with a partner, Rodney decided it was time to take one step further and open his own salon. The first Cutler salon was born in 2001 in midtown Manhattan and as business continued to grow, Rodney opened another salon in 2005 in Soho. To complement the downtown NYC, funky vibe, Rodney created the Soho location as a modern clean space with a loft-like, gallery feel, incorporating cut and color on one floor. A unique feature of Cutler salons is the Redken Lab, where colorist and client interact for in-depth discussions about skin tone, color choices and fashion, making each client’s interaction unique. In addition to running his successful salons, Rodney Cutler leads a talented, friendly and unpretentious staff of 150, 30 of which are editorial stylists consistently working on cover shoots and fashion spreads. Further establishing Cutler as the go-to source for all things fashion, Rodney Cutler and his innovative team of stylists create the hottest styles on the runways, working on more than 30 fashion week shows per season. Rodney and team have created head turning looks at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week for designers including Nicole Miller, Rebecca Taylor, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Badgley Mischka, Betsey Johnson, Tory Burch, Brian Reyes, Toni Maticevski, Tadashi and many more.
Continuing to extend his mantra of “Sexy Healthy Hair” to women at home, Cutler offers a full line of products including shampoos, conditioners, styling products and a travel kit. Continuing to grow his business with new endeavors, Rodney opened a new Cutler salon in the Gansevoort South Hotel in Miami in the summer of 2008, and has many more innovative products to come. Rodney has been featured in top national and regional consumer publications and television programs such as Make Me A Supermodel, the Today Show, Rachael Ray, Good Day New York, InStyle and InTouch, among others. Rodney’s celebrity clientele includes Rachael Ray, Jamie King, Gavin DeGraw Jordin Sparks, Emma Watson, and Fergie among others. In his spare time, Rodney trains for and participates in Triathlon's Iron Man events and raises twin boys with his wife Linda.
